The Pontian District is a district in southwest Johor, Malaysia. It has an area of 1,865.4 km² and is bounded by the districts of Johor Bahru to the north, Segamat to the east, Mersing to the south, and Kluang to the west. The district capital is Pontian Kechil.

The Pontian District was once a part of Johor Bahru District until it was created on 8 January 1994.

The name "Pontian" derives from "Pantai", meaning beach in Malay language. It is believed that this name came about due to its geographical location on the coast of the Straits of Johor
