Kota Tinggi

The Kota Tinggi district (Malay: Daerah Kota Tinggi) is a district in Johor, Malaysia. It is located in the southern part of Johor and borders Segamat District to the north and Mersing District to the east.

Kota Tinggi is situated about 80 km south of Johor Bahru, the state capital, and about 100 km south of Singapore.

In the floods that devastated Johor and some parts of Pahang, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan, Kota Tinggi had been hit hardest with nearly 100,000 people evacuated to evacuation centers.

The first flood wave started on December 19 2006 and submerged much of Kota Tinggi. It measured 4.90 meters, breaking the previous record flood water level by over afoot.

The second wave went even higher than the first and reached a peak height of 5.45 meters before it too receded. Kota Tinggi town was covered in water for close to two weeks and it was isolated from other towns due to landslides and flooding.
