Batu Pahat District is a district in Johor, Malaysia. It was created as a district in 1986.

Batu Pahat District is located in the southern part of the state of Johor, Malaysia.

It has an area of 2,203 square kilometers and it shares its borders with Mersing District to the north and east, Segamat District to the west and north-west, and Pontian District to the south-west.

In 1853, Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor decided to build a new capital at Batu Pahat to replace Muar as the administrative center for Johor.

A fort was constructed there, which became the residence of the Sultan. The town grew around it and became a major trading center in Johor.
